The Curse of Gravity.

They say the world is round,
They say,
But it looks flat to me.
I can go north or south,
I can go east or west,
But I can't go away from gravity.

They say the air ends,
They say,
And beyond it the stars are pure.
But I can't swim through,
And I'm too weak to jump
Away from gravity.

They say from where you are
You can see care,
And it looks so small that
I'm surprised you can even see it
Or see me through it.

They say from where you are
You can see where
Night melts into day
Like joy into sorrow into joy.
I'm surprised we can't see it
Or you through it.

They say from where you are
You can see
Land without borders,
And all our hatred looks so small.
I'm surprised you can love us
Through it.

There are a few, a lucky few,
Who've been where you are,
And tell me these things are true.
But the mind is no more free
Than the body,
And it can't get over gravity.

But it can never hold the heart
That believes
The world is as they say.
And those who've seen it
Through your eyes
Will never be held by gravity.

So I will look at the world
Through your eyes
And the eyes of these lucky few,
And I will close mine
And trust...that you're there
To rescue me from gravity.
